I was wary of my experience with the Grand Theft Auto series when I started playing it for the first time due to mixed opinions about GTA V’s graphic depictions of violence among gangs. I stayed away from the series as I grew older, but when an auto accident resulted in me with a severe back injury (ironically enough), I turned to GTA V to get through the boredom.
When I started to play, I could not quit. I was utterly awed by GTA’s narrative and its enthralling game mechanics; through all those years of avoiding GTA, I was entirely unaware of how thrilling the game could become.
I’ve recently begun playing GTA V and wanted to use this opportunity to commemorate the franchise in the “Games in Order” series. Because this is a long-running story, I’ll include sequels and other prequels as an element of the main series title. Check out the list below to see our complete roundup!
The Grand Theft Auto Games in Chronological order
There are a total of 16 different games in the Grand Theft Auto series – 11 on consoles for home use, one for PC, and four for handheld devices.
Before diving into the details, It’s important to note that there is a crucial aspect to the general continuity of Grand Theft Auto. It was confirmed by Rockstar 2011 in 2011 that 2011 the GTA series is divided into three distinct timelines, which include the 2D timeline. The 3D timeline is also part of the high-definition timeline. While specific events in the three timelines may be identical or similar, Rockstar doesn’t consider all of them canon to one another. So, we’ll break games into their distinct worlds.
Watching the GTA Trilogy In Order
Grand Theft Auto 3 came first, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City was released one year later. Vice City added new vehicles and water that looked like water instead of grey Sludge, and even an actor as the protagonist. Ray Liotta shines as Tommy Vercetti. But it’s the bikes, the guns, the creatively written side characters, and the missions (along with the fantastic music) that make Vice City such a memorable game. Vice City has nearly everything Grand Theft Auto 3 has, plus more. The game’s story is enhanced and offers more fantastic characters and depth. Players are offered the chance to buy their property and build a criminal empire. Initially, it seemed like a sequel that could never be beat. However, in just two more years, San Andreas will make players feel the same feeling upon its release.
GTA: San Andreas built the Vice City engine. However, it quadrupled the map of the game, creating an area of play larger than GTA: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto 3 and GTA: Vice City combined. The game added the addition of new extra missions (including Burglary, GTA’s best side mission to date) and more A-list talents than ever before, including legendary actors like Samuel L. Jackson in prominent parts. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas was an absolute success for the PS2, as its plot (which concludes with the entire city of Los Santos engulfed in riots) is both poignant and insightful in an approach that was unlike anything previously released Grand Theft Auto titles were until that point.
Grand Theft Auto: London 1961
That’s right. GTA begins in the sixties when the Kray twins are in the streets, causing chaos in the city’s East End. In a sense, the Kray twins weren’t depicted in the film!
Grand Theft Auto: London 1961 is the second free-of-cost mission pack for the first game. The prequel to the first GTA expansion (coming in the next instalment of our schedule), GTA: London 1961, puts you in the role of a criminal who needs to finish tasks for the cockney mobster Harold Cartwright.
Grand Theft Auto: London 1969
The first GTA expansion pack transports the player through times to Swinging Sixties. If you’re not hearing the roar of horns, skidding tires, or gunfire roaring, the infectious soundtrack is undoubtedly correct. The next time, eight British artists will be selected and listened to. They range from Sid Vacant to Maurice Caine!
Grand Theft Auto: London 1961 found you in Hard-nut Harold’s pockets. However, in this action game 8 years later, Harold is now an imposing adversary. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City (2002)
GTA Vice City is a significant turning point in the GTA franchise. It enabled players to experience a new version of Miami that was given its in-game title, Vice City. Most of the game elements employed in GTA Vice City were similar to GTA 3; however, it improved graphic quality.
Grand Theft Auto 4
Like its predecessors, GTA 4 takes place mainly in Liberty City, but it was in the year 2008. The site has changed in the last few years, particularly regarding the people who live there. Mobile phones and internet access have become essential to people’s lives, just like they did in reality.
We meet one of Niko, the game’s most significant character. He comes to Liberty City in pursuit of the American Dream. Well. It’s vengeance, too. The adventures that follow Johnny Klebitz and Luis Lopez are also set to are set to take place in parallel in The Lost and Damned as well as The Ballad of Gay Tony expansions, respectively.
Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars
The year 2009 is when Huang Lee, the son of the Triad boss, is determined to figure out the true story behind the death of his father and recover the missing sword of their family. This happens across Liberty City, which looks like the one that it was during the reign of Niko.

GTA 5 is the first to have three playable characters, Michael Townley, Franklin Clinton and Trevor Philips, and in an innovative twist – players can swap between all three in one instant throughout the game. Certain portions of the plot do not require acquiring characters in a single click.
The story was established in 2004; Michael and Trevor encounter each other with crime ring member Brad Snider in a failed attempted robbery in Ludendorff, North Yankton.
Brad is killed in an exchange, and Trevor thinks that Michael is dead too and runs away from the scene. Michael can survive and enter the witness protection program. He lives in Los Santos, but in 2013, he discovered himself in the criminal world again after joiningjoined forces with Franklin Clinton.
In the wake of a series of events that involved his wife, a tennis coach, and the mansion of a lord, Michael recruits a former friend, Lester, a hacker who has a disability who can assist digital technology, as well as Franklin to steal jewellery from a shop to pay the debt.
GTA The Trilogy The Complete Version 2021

The game has already been 10 decades since GTA 5 — so the fans are waiting to see more Capers of crime finish.
